On July 9, 2024, the Althepus project team leaded by Watera Hellas S.A. in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens and Nama Consulting Engineers & Planners S.A. presented their innovative Hybrid Cheese Factory Wastewater Treatment System.
The system uses an Intelligent Algorithm Information Tool to predict effluent water quality and support decision-making for sustainable waste management practices. At the event, the team showcased the design of the wastewater treatment and reuse unit, as well as the goals and advantages of the project.
Establishing a cheese factory wastewater treatment and reuse facility can be an innovative approach to managing cheese production waste. By partnering with research institutions and companies, the Althepus team has developed technologies for bioremediation of liquid waste and creation of new products. This enhances the circular economy through recycling and reuse, reducing waste and conserving resources. Furthermore, utilizing cheese factory wastewater as raw materials can open up new business opportunities and avenues for growth. Overall, the Althepus project demonstrates how collaboration and innovative technologies can transform waste management in the cheese industry.
